FRIDAY - JULY 17th - Campground at Garberville, Calif.

At 2am PDT, Whitney (daughter) called and said she was leaving for the hospital. Her water had broke and it is time for the baby to arrive.

We quickly decided that we will stay here another night and not take the chance that we may or may not have cell phone service in the Redwoods national Forest.

Our morning was kept busy with the many phone calls while we kept track of the events back home.

As others called and wished me a "Happy Birthday", I was thinking that this will be an even more special day if my grandson is born today.

At 1:55 EDT Connor was born. He weighed 7 lbs. & 6 oz. He was 21" long. Both the Mom and the baby are doing great!

Sharon and I are relieved that it is over but are very sad that we are not there with them. Phone calls, pictures, and text messages have been coming in steadily since the birth. All in all - we are very happy, blessed, and grateful grandparents.

Tomorrow, we will continue our adventure and will leave for the Redwoods National Park. So stay tuned there may be more surprises ahead.
