We are at the Indian Creek Campground where we stayed last night and will stay again tonight. This is located in Gold Beach, Oregon, a small town on US101 in the southwestern corner of the state.
We made arrangements to take a jet boat tour of the Rogue River for 64 miles. This will be a scenic tour with some fun. Our boat captain will do some 360 degree turns at high speed and a few people may get wet. The boat is power by 3 Chevy Vortex 496 CID engines. I was told the top speed is 60 mph with 45 people on board. But first - remember this is a scenic tour not a race!
Enjoy the pictures.......
This is the boat. Long, wide, flat and all the weight down low. Captain and engines are in the back. The jet pumps are tunneled and do not extend below the bottom of the boat. This boat can operate just fine in 12" of water.
We saw these seals just as we were leaving the harbor.
Nice big bridge. We crossed this bridge when we left town to continue on our adventure.
Osprey high up in a tree which was pretty high up on a hill.
I was informed that Ospreys build their nest in the top of a structure. The Bald Eagle will build it down a little lower to get some shade from the trees.
Picture yourself, retired, wealthy or not, sitting here looking down at the river. Peaceful!
A nice home situated on a bluff overlooking the river.
My first sighting of a Bald Eagle. He was high up on a hill overlooking the river. More eagle pictures to come!
We had lunch here at Cougars Lane Lodge. Food was okay but the service was pretty bad. This is in a town called Agness, 32 miles upstream on the River. They get a captive group from the boats who have 2 hours to spend here. Since this place depends on tourism you would think the service would be top shelf.
Agness, Oregon - Population 75
This is where our boat will pick us up after lunch.
Sharon posing with the boat Captain. He might have been 23 years old but he knew how to handle this jet boat.
This is one of the two Bald Eagles perched in the same tree about 20' apart. They were pretty high up.
Got a good snapshot of this Bald Eagle while he was down by the water. Unfortunately I didn't react fast enough to catch him in flight as he flew away.
Our boat captain decided to wet down the tourist. He did this 3 or 4 times. After you get wet the first time all you can do after that is get wetter, so enjoy it! HINT: Do not sit in the first 5 rows.
The Rogue River is famous for the King Salmon run which happens twice a year. This guy caught a 20+ pounder and was very proud.. I was told the record for this area is 44 pounds.
My camping neighbor had a beautifully painted satellite dish. The painting gave good representation of our surrounding area.
