Wednesday - July 22nd - Garrity to Swan Valley, Idaho

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for visiting us again today.
We spent the night in Nampa, Idaho at the Garrity Campground which is 38 miles inside western Idaho.

We are making a loop down the west side of Idaho and back up the east side to Wyoming. This will prevent us from crossing major mountains in Central Idaho & Montana. We changed our travel plans while in Washington yesterday.

Our goal for today is to make this loop so we will be ready to visit the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone tomorrow. Our travels will take us southeast on I-84 to east of Twin Falls where we will pick up I-86. This travels northeast to Pocatello where we will pick up I-15 and go north to Idaho Falls. There we will leave the Interstate system and travel US26 east to Wyoming.

Enjoy the pictures as we travel across Idaho.

Garrity Campground, Nampa, Idaho. Cost $21.38
Got in late and never saw the manager. We put the money in an envelope and dropped it off in a mail slot at the office as we were leaving this morning.

Idaho, in this area, was pretty desolate, as you can tell by the picture.

After 150 miles, the terrain starts to change.

That's the Snake River in the background. We must have crossed it at least a dozen times.

This area of Idaho had many rocks and gulches as far as you could see. It looks like it is impassable, even on foot.

As we neared the Wyoming state line, the scenery, look a lot more inviting.

Beautiful ranches dotted the landscape.

Another small hill - the MH did remarkably well on this adventure. Even in the high elevations and steep grades, it was faster than the 18 wheelers and never overheated.

No secret - I set the cruise control for the acceptable speed for the terrain and let the computer manage the gears and RPM.

We located (by luck) a nice campground in Swan Valley, Idaho which is about 24 miles from the Wyoming state line. We introduced ourselves to our overnight neighbors. Gary & Joyce from Kansas. They were driving a Country Coach with a Honda Gold Wing on the back and towing a Jeep Liberty. I helped Gary unload the Gold Wing so he could clean it up. They had planned on touring the valley on it that evening. Gary said if we wanted to go out and tour the area or run some errands, here's the keys to the Jeep.
As I have mentioned many times before - "You meet the nicest and friendliest people in a campground regardless where you are".

We stayed in and when they returned from their dinner and ride we spent the evening telling tales and drinking wine.

Our view from the living room in the motorhome. Unlike being at home in Florida - in the MH we can change the view or our neighbors by driving a few feet or a few miles!

Well while it was still daylight and I had a little extra energy, I washed the MH. The last two times we stopped at a truck wash and let them do it. Of course, if I could have found one I would have let them do it again instead of spending 1 1/2 hours doing it myself.
Tomorrow, we will tackle the Grand Tetons and Yellowstone NP. Buffalos, deer, sheep, bears, and Old Faithful. I'm looking forward to this!

Tune in on our next update to hear the latest about these two areas.

Until then - Happy Trails!
